Ardis Butler James was a collector of quilts, and co-creator, with her husband, of the the International Quilt Study Center & Museum. She was interested in all kinds of quilts (as am I), from all over the world, official fine art quilts and the homespun fine art kind too. She saw value in these everyday works of mostly female creative, utilitarian household objects, artworks created from scraps and ingenuity.

“Almost everything in our lives can be disposable if we want, and I’m not against paper plates, but there may be need of an anchor as well,” she said in a talk she gave some years ago.
